ARD "Die Goldene 1" at the IFA in Berlin
03. September 1991
  • La Cumbia

NOTE:
During this performance the stage was decorated with lots of baloons, and in the middle of the song, some dancers in monkey costumes came on the stage. They were followed by a huge pig which used to be the mascott of the TV show "Die Goldene Eins". It was all very strange, and Georg, Phil, Henry and Grant couldn't help laughing throughout the rest of the song. Georg is often quoted with the sentence: "The dwarves are fine, but the windsurfing pig is definitely out!". The story changes a bit, everytime we hear it, but it quickly got the name "windsurfing pig affair", although the pig was actually wearing a tuxedo and the dwarves dancing in the back were monkeys... Sounds very confusing, doesn't it?! ;-)

NOTE:
For this performance a guy called Pete Dennis stood in for Georg and played the bass (see picture). The television producers felt that ‘Stay The Night’ was too strong a message to send out to a young audience, so they agreed to sing alternative lyrics, ‘Stay A While’.

NOTE:
For this performance a fake Nickelodeon was used. This was because some people thought it would be much easier to place a fake Nickelodeon on the stage than to get the original one for only one or two songs for TV shows (e.g. Musikladen, Starparade). So, some funny fake Nickelodeons appeared from time to time throughout the 70s...
