The story behind the painting:
"Blue Desert" was inspired by the song of the same title. The mood of the painting captures the long, emotionally solitary journeys out on the open sea which many a sailor has embarked upon. It is a sea which appears to be an endless desert, a blue desert to those lonely sailors whose fate it is to forever wander the oceans. The blue desert makes the sailor dream of the bright lights of the harbour towns, the bars and the girls.
